Common Health Problems of Terrier Puppies

Terrier dogs is one of the most popular and in-demand breed of dogs. They are naturally active, sociable, people-pleaser, and often, independent. Terriers too have a fascinating sweetness and temperament that mark them as lovable dogs. To date, there are numerous cross-breeds of terriers but they are commonly associated with bulldogs.

Terriers are trainable dogs but owners need more patience during the training as they easily lose focus when something else catches their attention. They tend to go after and ‘hunt’. If you are planning to own one, you surely would not have much problem being with them. Terriers are great family companions. They are loyal and courageous in nature. There are just a few common medical problems that you might need to handle.

Originally, terriers were bred during the 17th century as hunting dogs or guard dogs. Some, though, put them in a wild rat race where the dog that kills more rats wins. Up to now, they still possess the same energy, especially in terrier puppies. This explains why leg injuries are common medical problem.

Other medical problems that terrier puppies often suffer are skin infections, scabies, poor eyesight and gum problems. As we know dogs, skin infections are oftentimes caused by ticks and scabies because some breeds of terriers have thick coats. Cleaning and brushing them regularly, therefore is a must. Poor eyesight often occurs among Jack Russel Terriers. This medical condition among terrier puppies can either be hereditary or due old age.

It is standard that your puppies receive enough medical attention to monitor their health. For sure, you will be willing to do this as you learn to love your dogs. Terrier puppies’ medical problems are not as bad as they sound. You can avoid it through regular consultation with their vets.
